DU QUOIN — Two of the area’s top 1A girls basketball teams opened the season going head to head as Woodlawn got by Christopher 49-40 in the opening game of the Lady Indians’ Tip-Off Classic at Du Quoin.

Ryan Petersen led Woodlawn with 18 points. Jace Burkett added 15 for the Lady Cardinals.

Christopher’s Amiah Hargrove led all scorers with 22 points. Jessica Gordon also reached double figures for the Lady Bearcats with 10.

In the other opening night game, Du Quoin downed Murphysboro 49-18. The tournament continues Wednesday night with Christopher meeting Murphysboro and Woodlawn will facing Du Quoin.
