Red Devils and Bulldogs pick up wins at Murphysboro

MURPHYSBORO — The Harrisburg Bulldogs and Murphysboro Red Devils picked up wins on night two in the Murphysboro pool of the Murphysboro/Trico Tournament.

The Bulldogs held off Chester 48-44. Cameron Ande led Harrisburg with 16 points with Michael Godsey adding 14. Jared Landeros scored a game high 19 points to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Harrisburg is 1-1 in the tourney, while Chester falls to 0-2.

In the nightcap, the host Red Devils jumped out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and cruised past Lovejoy 66-35 to remain unbeaten the tournament. The Wildcats fall to 1-1.

Murphysboro senior Calvon Clemons led all scorers with 21 points. Karmelo Abernathy added 16 and Alek Abell 10 for the Red Devils.

In the Trico pool, Steeleville beat Sparta 56-33, and it was Carterville over Trico 57-38.

Friday night will be the final night of pool play with the trophy games set for Saturday.
