METROPOLIS — The Vienna Lady Eagles overcame an 8-point third quarter deficit to beat Massac County 51-42 for the championship of the City of Metropolis Tournament.
A sophomore and a freshman led the way for the Lady Eagles. Sophomore Emmy Vinson led all scorers with 19, while freshman Ayva Rush added 15–13 coming in the second half.
Vienna led 8-7 at the half, but Massac County used a strong second quarter to take a 20-14 lead into the half. After the Lady Patriots extended the lead to eight in the third quarter, Vienna outscored Massac County 11-3 the rest of the quarter to tie the game at 29 heading to the fourth.
After the lead changed hands a couple of times to open the fourth, the Lady Eagles used a 12-1 midway through the final frame to seize control. Massac County could get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
Adalyn Gower led the Lady Patriots with 17 points. Elise Coakley added 15.
Carlisle County (KY) beat Carbondale 51-38 for third place.
