HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs made it a memorable final home game, jumping out to a big first half lead then coasting to a 45-29 win over West Frankfort in the quarterfinals of the Benton 2A Regional. In a change to the postseason format this year, higher seeded teams hosted the regional quarterfinals with the semis and finals to be held at the regional sites.
Sidney Neal led the way with 17 points and four steals, and senior Chelsea Davidson added 13 for the Lady Bulldogs, who led 10-5 after the first quarter and outscored West Frankfort 19-3 in the second quarter to take a commanding 29-8 lead at the half.
West Frankfort outscored Harrisburg 21-16 in the second half, but the deficit was too big for the Lady Redbirds to overcome.
Harrisburg will now face Hamilton County in the second semifinal at Benton Tuesday night. The host Rangerettes will open the night at 6:00 against Eldorado.
