SESSER — In a couple of years, don’t be surprised if you see area girls basketball coaches show up at graduations at Christopher and Goreville, just to make sure Amiah Hargrove and Abby Compton get their diplomas and move on. These super sophomores are wearing teams out and have led their teams to the 1A Sweet 16, where they will face each other in the Sesser-Valier Sectional championship game.

In the first semi-final, Compton scored 23 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead the Lady Blackcats to a 60-38 win over Woodlawn. Goreville led by 10 at the half and quickly extended that lead to 15 in the third quarter and never let the Lady Cardinals get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

In addition to Compton’s big night, Breanna Suits tallied 16 for Goreville. Abby King added 12. Zoey Shields led Woodlawn with 13 points. Ryan Petersen added 10.

In the nightcap, Hargrove showed off her complete game scoring 32 points and grabbing eight rebounds to go along with several assists and a couple of blocked shots to lead Christopher past Gallatin County 50-34.

The Lady Bearcats used a 15-1 second quarter run to take control. Christopher led 27-13 at the half and never looked back. In addition to Hargrove’s big night, McKensie Jackson added 11 for the Lady Bearcats. Junior Carly Foster led the Lady Hawks with 20 with Kenzie Russell adding 10.

Goreville and Christopher will meet in the sectional championship game Thursday night at 7:00. The winner moves on to Monday’s Wayne City Supersectional against the winner of the Tuscola Sectional.
