SESSER — The Goreville Lady Blackcats found themselves down 11 points late in the third quarter to a team that had already beaten them twice in the regular season, the Christopher Lady Bearcats. Goreville didn’t flinch, rallying to win the Sesser-Valier 1A Sectional championship 57-53.

The two teams’ sophomore stars were worth the price of admission. Christopher’s Amiah Hargrove scored 24 of her game high 32 points in the second half helping the Lady Bearcats build the double digit lead. Abby Compton led Goreville with 30, with 16 coming during the second half rally.

After missing several games with a bad ankle, Macie Tosh gave Goreville a huge spark, scoring all 11 of her points in the second half.

The Lady Bearcats had to play without starting point guard Jessica Gordon who was out with a knee injury.

Goreville advances to Monday night’s Wayne City Supersectional against the winner of the Tuscola Sectional, either Effingham St. Anthony or Neoga. The winner at Wayne City will be headed to Redbird Arena for the State Semifinals.
