CARTERVILLE — Carterville sophomore Lacie Carr tossed a three-hit shutout and added a run-scoring double as fourth-ranked Carterville blanked second-ranked Unity 2-0 in a matchup of the state’s top 2A softball teams.
Carr allowed three singles and faced only one significant jam, getting out of two-out, bases loaded trouble in the third by getting Taylor Henry to ground to Amayah Doyle at third for an inning-ending force out.
Henry was tough in the circle for Unity as well, striking out 10 on the day. Carterville did not get a hit until Kennedy Rushing led off the fourth with a double off the left field fence. Rushing scored on Maddie Rosenberry’s two-out single to right center for the game’s first run.
In the sixth, Rushing’s hustle turned a blooper into a double, and Carr turned that into an insurance run with a double to left center.
The insurance wasn’t needed though, as Carr worked around a two-out walk in the seventh, getting Ruby Tarr to fly out Macey Lentz to end the game.
With the win, Lions improve to 13-2. They will return to SIRR–Mississippi play Tuesday when they will pay a visit to Pinckneyville.
