SESSER — The Sesser-Valier Red Devils have a new head boys basketball coach–former Rend Lake head coach Tommy Holder.

Holder graduated from Carbondale Community High School, where he played on the Terriers’ 2A 4th Place team in 2003-04. He played two years at Rend Lake and later spent nine seasons as a coach for the Warriors. From 2011-17, he was an assistant coach under Randy House, including the 2013 team that won the NJCAA DII National Championship. After House resigned, Holder was promoted to head coach, where he led the Warriors to a 32-61 record in three seasons.

“The Sesser-Valier School District is excited to welcome Coach Holder to our basketball program,” Red Devils’ Athletic Director Chip Basso said in a release. “Holder brings a wealth of knowledge with him. Coach Holder has been known for his ability to develop players throughout his coaching career. It will be exciting for Red Devil players, parents, and fans to see his vision for the program.”

Holder replaces Shane Garner who resigned in April to take a teaching and assistant athletic director position at Benton.
