BLOOMINGTON — Anna-Jonesboro’s Zoee Sadler and Goreville’s Alivia Ming each cruised to the championship matches in their weight classes at the Girls State Wrestling Tournament in Bloomington, before falling in the title match to finish state runner up.
With girls wrestling being a single class sport, both Sadler and Ming wound up in the championship matches against wrestlers from schools that are 4A in multi-class sports. Sadler lost 8-1 to Harlee Hillary from Loyola Academy in the 105 finals. Ming was pinned in the first period of the 140 finals by Edwardsville’s Mackenzie Pratt.
In addition to Pratt, two other wrestlers from the Metro East won titles–Highland’s August Rottman (170) and Belleville East’s Kiara Ganey (235).
Red Bud’s Avery Smith finished third at 115. Ming’s Goreville teammate, Mikah Merrill, medaled at 145 finishing sixth, while Carbondale’s Faith Loyd tied for eighth at 125.
